Quit Smoking Stopping Methods
Posted by: | CommentsIt is important that smokers really ‘resolve to stop smoking’ when they ‘decide’ to stop. Resolving to quit smoking properly makes a big difference in your chances of success. By making a ‘proper’ decision, you increase your odds of success in overcoming the evil weed several fold.
So what do I mean by ‘making a proper call’? Well, most smokers when they decide to quit smoking don’t truly resolve to quit smoking ; they simply decide to wish to be able to quit smoking. There are plenty of reasons for this but the most important one I believe is the emotional attachment to smoking.
Smokers think that they enjoy smoking regardless of the undeniable fact that to smoke, one must inhale hot toxic gas and particulates to enjoy it. Because smokers are so attached to smoking as a delightful pass time, it is tricky to resolve to stop smoking without seeing stopping smoking as a test of will or avoidance, resulting in agitation about stopping.
This agitation manifests itself in the smokers mind by making them nervous at the thought of spending the remainder of their lives without their beloved cigarettes. After all , the average smoker has not enjoyed a mug of joe, meal or alcoholic drink in the previous couple of years without a trusty fag within arms reach.
If you decide to stop smoking you should resolve to quit smoking and not merely decide to ‘give it another go’. And it will be another go – research implies that most smokers take seven attempts over many years to kick the habit!
So how can you go about resolving to stop smoking? Well, firstly you need to accept the rest of your life must be without cigarettes. This is a monstrous proposition for most smokers because they enjoy smoking so much. But consider these facts ;
Fact 1 : We were all born as non-smokers. It was only after starting smoking that we became smokers and we did not even chose to do that, we only chose to give smoking a try. ( that’s another story I cover in my book )
Fact 2 : 25% of the people of the united states have never smoked a cigarette and they appear to get on with life OK. These folks have resolved never to smoke and they do not miss it one iota!
Fact three : 25% of the population have tried smoking and just couldn’t get into it – they do not smoke and they appear to manage just fine too.
Fact four : 25% of the population used to smoke at one time or another for varying periods but they have now stopped. They don’t smoke and appear to get on with life fine too.
finally, there’s the 25% of folks who currently smoke and who have not managed to deal with to stop smoking. Researching the way to quit smoking is an excellent good start and step 1 on a journey to a smoke free life so by reading this article you are already headed in the right direction!
At least 75% of the populace can and do live happily without cigarettes. What makes you so special? Go on, don’t just resolve to try and quit, resolve to quit smoking.
Giving up makes it permanent, never stop trying to stop smoking.

Smoke-Free for Safety
Posted by: | CommentsDid you know that children who grow up in smoky atmospheres have more than twice the chance of getting chest infections and asthma as those children who live in smoke-free homes. Research has shown that children whose parents smoke are more likely to need hospital attention before they are a year old and, when they do get to school, have more sick days than schoolchildren whose parents are non-smokers. If these statistics aren’t enough, children whose parents smoke have a much higher risk of getting meningitis than children whose parents don’t smoke.
Women who are expecting babies and who continue to smoke reduce the amount of oxygen the growing baby gets in the womb due to the amount of carbon monoxide flowing through the expectant mother’s blood vessels. Smoking while pregnant increases the risk of miscarriage, sickness and unnecessary bleeding. The foetus grows much slower and there are increased complications to both mother and baby during both pregnancy and labour. Further risk involves stillbirth or premature birth, and babies risk being born with lower birth weights, damage to their respiratory tracts and an increased chance of cot death.
So, you want to stop smoking. You know it is not going to be easy, especially when you are socialising and all your friends still smoke. Plenty of help is available, from face-to-face cognitive therapies to hypnotherapy, acupuncture to group meetings. There is information galore on the internet and in the doctors’ surgeries, all advising you how to stop smoking. You can try nicotine patches or chewing gum to supplement your will-power. These will help you to cope with your cravings. People who are trying to stop smoking often get rather irritable, and tired due to lack of sleep. People who are trying to stop smoking would be the first to admit they are a little difficult to live with while they are trying to stop smoking.
Cigarettes Really Are Bad News
Posted by: | CommentsWhy is smoking cigarettes so popular? What makes people spend so much money on buying cigarettes or tobacco to make into cigarettes? Even the vast numbers of people who give up smoking cigarettes admit to having experienced considerable enjoyment when they were smoking – while at the same time, wanting desperately to give up the cigarette habit. Another mystery which has always surprised me: tobacco is known to be more addictive than alcohol or even heroin and cocaine. Yet, children as young as 16 can purchase cigarettes and other tobacco-related products in the UK but they cannot buy alcohol until they are 18 – and cocaine and heroine are completely illegal. Where is the sense in that?
The World Health Organization acknowledges that more people are killed by cigarettes and other tobacco-related products than any disease anywhere in the world. Do people continue to smoke cigarettes because they are unable to stop, or is there another reason why? When people know the tremendous risks they are taking with the health of their bodies, why do they continue to smoke cigarettes? It has been estimated that, out of all the people who give up smoking cigarettes, up to 70% will restart sooner or later. Part of the problem is the cravings experienced as the nicotine is withdrawn from the body and part is the difficulty in sleeping and the other withdrawal effects experienced. Smokers enjoy smoking. Apart from the social aspects, having a cigarette gives smokers a rush of energy, making them feel more alert.
More younger people than ever before are taking up the habit of smoking cigarettes, in many cases, in an attempt to keep their weight down. Smoking dulls the taste buds so food is less tasty and you tend to eat less of it. Advertising of cigarettes is becoming more and more controlled in many countries and packets of cigarettes have to all carry explicit warnings about serious damage to health. In the whole of the UK and Eire, smoking in public places has been completely banned in an attempt to reduce the risks posed to the public by passive smoking. Smokers now have to either smoke their cigarettes outside, or only smoke in their own homes.
